Elkhorn River

Every bridge
show more opportunities

every section shows
more choices

go fishing
and swimming
and tubing or tanking
go canoeing
four wheeling
and hunting

All rivers are same
but different

this ones different
because its in Nebraska

Persona Poem

I speak death
though I can mean life

I eat the powder
and pit out the lead

All the same I am
not in charge

Im chosen for when
to wait and sit

Im made to be
bounced around

and sometimes
they feed me

Hunting is My Life (haiku)

Hunting is my life
When you hear boom it is best

Dragging deer back sucks

Life is Football (extended metaphor poem)

Life is football

It can be rough
If you get knocked down

You have to get up

When you lose, everyone suffers
When you win, everyone is rewarded

Teamwork, and group suffering

Life is football

Found Poem From, Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Address

Don’t lose hope
Getting fired was the best
I didn’t know what to do
But I entered on of the most creative period of my life

Remembering that will help me make big choices

Deer season (five senses poem)

With the biting cold wind in my face
Although the smell of propane dampers it
Sitting in the stand is cozy though
With the wind whistling in the background
But never touching me

When I here crunch, crunch, crunch
The gun comes up
The binoculars come out
The white glistening snow with light twinkling from falling snow
And then splash splash splash across the frozen river

When up comes white trophies coming up from a hill

When out of the near silence comes a loud sharp noise that can be heard for miles

After you see the feet fly and the head drop
A sudden joy serges through you
When you walk to see your trophy you are very proud

Until you relize you have to drag him back

Riley (name poem)

It means, honest, strong, funny
It is number 58
It is the color of grass
It is the memory of Grandpa Martin
Who taught me to be thankful and fight for what you want
When he tells me stories
My name is Riley

It means playing football and hunting

Football (acrostic poem)

From many foes comes many winning friends
Out on the field, nothing else matters
Only in football can you smother someone and get away with it
To play football you have to have tons of heart
Ball flies… TOUCHDOWN

All I think about before and after a game is football
uck is also needed in a game
ife is better with football

Trust takes years to build seconds to break and forever to repair.

Trust is something that is very important especially in the movie. In the movie the kids that were blind had to trust there guides. If they’re guides were to have done something to break that trust the kids I don’t think would have continued through the expedition. This theme is important to me because in sports such as football you have to trust your team mates that they will get there job done and accomplish the play.

Proud to be an American

Have you ever thought of what defines freedom, or how other people feel that are not “free”.  Freedom should be important to everyone. When I think of something free, the first things to come to mind are the 13 amendments, the past choices and history that makes it so we are free, as well as holidays.
As I said the thirteen amendments are one of the first things that come to mind. I think that these three amendments describe freedom excellently, the women’s suffrage act, the right to bare arms, and the abolition of slavery. The reason I think the women’s suffrage act is important is because after women gained rights, any gender of adult was allowed to vote and have a say in political decisions. The right to bare arms is important to me because in other countries if you own a gun, you could be persecuted severely. The abolition of slavery is very important because after slavery was abolished, you couldn’t own people, which, in my opinion, shouldn’t happen any way.
Another factor, I describe as freedom, is America’s past choices.  WWI was supposed to end all wars, but America went to war with the Germany in WWII.  If America would have lost WWII, we may be speaking German. When America went to war in Afghanistan, the fight began over terroristic reasons. People were given freedom when women earned the right to vote and when slavery was abolished.  Remember, if people didn’t discover America and explore we would not be here.
One last thing, I think describes freedom is the holidays we have. Christmas and Easter are examples because they are religious holidays. Veteran’s day is an important holiday because it recognizes the soldiers who gave us these privileges.
I hope this essay has stressed that being able to do more or less what we want to do, should be important to you. Even though I did not give huge recognition to the American soldiers, I am very thankful for the freedom they fought for.  Always tell a solider, thank you.

Max Power

Max Power
By: Riley Davis

Max power was an All-Star extreme, hardcore, football player. When he was sprinting down the field for another award winning touchdown, a player hit him just right and he did so hard (because back then when he played the equipment was not near as good) that the helmet shattered, and his shoulder pads just fell apart, and all the while his heart just stopped.
After that he came to live in OHS. Max lives in the locker room. From constant working out he is very big and muscular. Max’s clothes have changed over the years but right now he wheres a pair of very worn jeans and a ripped T-shirt. Max has a scar across his cheek from what people think was from his helmet when it shattered. When he’s not doing exercise, Max is playing football or doing drills. His hands are rough with callouses from throwing the football so much. His feet, when Max was just beginning as a ghost, were full of blisters from running after decades of practice. His feet have a certain immunity to  blisters.
The craziest part about him is that only football players can see him. During school he will sometimes visit classrooms. The football players will slowly drift to where he is and talk to Max. The teachers have learned to respect this, although if we get to loud we get in only a little bit of trouble.
To people, who aren't football players, all they see is the door open. They here sly footsteps, and see all of the chairs sliding to one spot, then whispering quietly in an empty spot between them all. If your not familiar with Max everyone that is involved looks absolutely nuts.

In the hallways, Max plays pranks on people, making papers fly, tripping people so on, so forth. When we practice, Max is always out there helping and making sure equipment is good so no one else gets hurt. Everyone that plays football likes him. So if you don't play football your in for a surprise. Even if you do play football and you haven't been told about Max Power, your still in for a wild treat.

Hogwarts Feast

Halloween Feast at Hogwarts

When Harry woke up he was very excited for the day. He immediately went to wake up Ron and of course find Hermione in the Gryffindor lounge reading. When Ron and Harry came into the lounge, as first years not knowing what to expect, it was all black and yellow, the fire pit was stoked with, orange fire? They must have enchanted it. The Candy was spread over the middle coffee table for anyone to enjoy. three friends start for there classes. As they went, every so often they would here a scream, and then laughing. They found out why some of the pictures would pop out  or the ghosts would come out of nowhere.
Once they finally made it there classes Ron and Harry were directed to the Great Hall. Ron asked, “Where is Hermione?” Harry answered, “Probably just stuck in traffic or got lost reading a book. We’ll probably meet her in the Great Hall.” Although he was a little concerned himself.
In the great hall the enchanted ceiling had a full moon with shallow clouds drifting over it. The walls were filled with orange and black streamers, cobwebs, and fake spiders that would move, in spots green goo would be spilling out, and many other things. Ghosts were in and out of the walls and floor. The candles were orange.

Ron and Harry saw Hermione all of them sat down. Headmaster Dumbledore said “Proceeding after the feast we will trick or treat in any class room with an orange door. I hope for all of you to have a fabulous Halloween,” all of the sudden he snapped and poof the food was there. Dumbledore smiled as every one dug in. There was;pumpkin pie chocolate frogs, candy licorice, every flavored jelly beans, prime rib, steak, many fruits, pumpkin juice, lamb chops, and mash potatoes. It was a very fun Haloween.

A School Day I'll Never Forget

A School Day I’ll Never Forget   By: Riley Davis

There are many many babies born every day. There will be one that I probably never forget wether I want to or not. On February 27th 2008 my life was changed. We knew it was going to happen any day, and we were all excited. My mom was in and out of the hospital and they had to be ready at any time.
I had to stay with my grandma for a couple of days before the actual day. I had to wake up a little earlier to make it to school or else I’d be late. My grandma let me eat anything for breakfast though so it wasn’t so bad.
The day when when it happened I had no idea and didn't know what her name would be. I had been suspenseful up to then and it was great to here the news. After school when my grandma picked me up she hurried me to the hospital. I was scared at first but when she announced to me me why, I was relieved. I HAD A NEW BABY SISTER! Her name was Brenna. The day after the 27th I got to skip school to help and hang out with my sister.
Brenna has been awesome, entertaining, exasperating, and a great experience to watch her grow up. I also have someone to pick on and give me something to do everyday. She also helps me with little favors, she is awesome.

Brenna has changed my life forever. My sister has added responsibility. I am not the only child so I don’t get the things I used to which makes it so that I’m not greedy or spoiled.

My Bedroom

Riley Davis
Eng7 Period 2

My Bedroom

Here is my room. When I walk into my room after football practice I immediately see my fathead of Si. I throw my bags at the foot of my very abnormally colored bed. Thats were i charge my phone and computer. I immediately go over to my closet where my dresser is inside. My closet is very messy with clothes and old Halloween costumes.I get my clothes that are scattered throughout my oak dresser and go take a shower. I do my homework, immediately after my shower, on my desk in the other corner of my room while I listen to music on my stereo on top of my entertainment center. In my entertainment center is a VCR a dvd player and a PS2 that I got when I was six from my grandma. My home computer sets next to me just taunting me till I get done with my homework.

After supper I just either play on my computer, watch T.V. or read a book out of my small book collection. All over my room are Duck Dynasty Fathead Stickers and a couple football fatheads. All of my trophies and medals are on my wall. Some of my medals and trophies are from shooting some are from football and some are from wrestling. My guns and my knife collection are all in locked cases in my closet.
When I go to bed I can look at my elk pictures above me. I can see my second favorite dog on the opposite wall every night. My dog sleeps under the blankets on my legs. When I’m doing homework he sleeps on my chair which was my dad’s. Above my desk are some deer antlers of my grandpas. My cowboy hats sit on the antlers. I am rich beyond measure.
